Danger of mercury contamination near coal fired powered plants: study

MANY estuaries across Australia are at risk of increasing levels of metal contamination, particularly mercury contamination from nearby coal-fired power plants and their associated ash dams, according to researchers from Monash University and Australian National University who have assessed the impact of high levels of mercury in the sediments of Lake Macquarie in New South Wales.
