The Queensland Civil Industry Training Centre was officially opened by Minister for Local Government, Community Recovery and Resilience David Crisafulli, with a number of guests in attendance including Townsville city council councillors, CCF national and Queensland board members and CCF Queensland members, clients and staff.

Forming part of the 547 Industry Park development, QCITC has been established in a two-storey unit comprising training facilities and office space.

It is a smaller version of the QCITC located in Eight Mile Plains.

Key features of the purpose-built centre include two training rooms, two meeting rooms, a plant simulator, confined space, working at heights and trench shoring simulation facilities, and onsite parking.

“The civil construction industry has been facing a skills shortage due to an ageing workforce and the competing demand for similar skills from the resources industry,” CCF Queensland branch CEO Robert Row said at the opening.

“The QCITC has been developed to address this issue so our local industry may deliver future infrastructure projects for Queenslanders including roads, tunnels, bridges, dams, wharves and commercial and housing land developments.

“It is a purpose designed facility packed full of the latest technology and facilities for civil construction training.”
