China's largest opencut mine begins construction

CHINAS largest opencut coal mine, Harwusu, commenced construction in Inner Mongolia last week.

The mine, located in the Zhungar coal field, includes 12 coal seams suitable for opencut mining in an area of 67.17 square kilometres, China Coal Resource reported.

The main mining seam is 20m thick and the raw coal extracted can be sold directly as commercial coal.

The mine will produce 20 million tons per annum of thermal coal over a 79-year mine life on 1.73 billion tons of mineable reserves, China Coal Resource reported.
