Chevron launches Appalachia initiative

Called the Appalachia Partnership Initiative Chevron, the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation and RAND Corporation have committed to improve science, technology, engineering and maths education and develop a highly-skilled workforce for the area’s energy and manufacturing industries.

The initiative, which was developed through extensive discussions with education and workforce development experts, aims to address opportunities and challenges detailed in a recent Carnegie Science Centre study through the development of programs and the expansion of existing regional education and technical training partnerships.

Chevron executive vice-president of policy and planning Rhonda Zygocki said the company was committed to building lasting relationships and creating prosperity in the tri-state area.
