In response to “widespread investor interest”, Carbon summarised the key findings from the pilot project.

These included that the test plant’s CSIRO-developed technology had no impact on regional use of groundwater and demonstrated safe and effective operation.

The plant also demonstrated the ability to cease gasification within 24 hours of stopping air injection while Carbon said the “self-cleaning principle” of its keyseam design was proven.

“Steam cleaning during decommissioning has resulted in the water remaining in the cavity being of stock water quality,” Carbon said.

These findings are part of submissions to the Queensland government.

If approved, Carbon aims to start meeting predicted gas shortages from 2017 through the UCG site.

“The company is continuing discussions with potential investors and off-take partners for this project,” Carbon said.
