The award was presented by Queensland Treasurer Andrew Fraser and follows Sedgman’s 2010 win in the large services category, which subsequently led to it winning the National Export Award in that category.

Sedgman will now go on to represent Queensland in the minerals and energy category at the 49th Australian Export Awards on December 8.

Fraser said this year’s honour roll represented the best of the best in Queensland exporting.

“Companies from right across Queensland were on show last night, celebrating exporting successes against a backdrop of ongoing global economic uncertainty and last summer’s natural disasters,” he said.

Sedgman managing director Nick Jukes said the win reflected the great effort by its employees to create opportunities in the global mining sector that benefit clients, shareholders and the wider Queensland community.

“It is an honour to win this award for the second time and I believe it’s testament to our continued growth and success in international markets,” he said.

In the past year, Sedgman opened two new international offices in Shanghai and Mongolia, adding to its existing offices in Beijing, Santiago and Johannesburg.

The company won contracts in Mongolia, Colombia and Botswana and staff numbers grew by 30% globally to reach 1000.

“Sedgman is positioned strongly in the coming year to deliver a range of projects and continue its excellence in contract operations, both within Australia and abroad,” Jukes said.
