EPA preparing for annual CMM event

The large and popular event, being hosted in 2010 by the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel in Alabama October 5-7, will highlight the newest regional and federal activity updates on the sector.

The US Mine Safety and Health Administration will also be presenting to the industry crowd.

CMM project financing, case studies of domestic and international mine methane projects, and the latest information on innovative ventilation air methane (VAM) in Alabama, West Virginia, Australia and China will all be covered.

Among the technical presentations on the CMOP’s draft schedule for the conference:

  • Mine safety developments and impacts on CMM projects – Erik Sherer, US Mine Safety and Health Administration
  • Carbon offsets from coal mine methane destruction projects – Max DuBuisson, Climate Action Reserve
  • VAM market milestones in 2010 – MEGTEC Systems
  • VAM oxidation technology and experience – Biothermica
  • CMM recovery and utilization strategies – Alpha Natural Resources
  • Coal mine methane projects as a pathway to near zero methane emission mining – Clark Talkington, Syndicatum Carbon Capital Americas
  • CMM drainage and utilization feasibility study – Ruby Canyon Engineering

Guests attending the 2010 event will also be eligible to go on a special site visit to Jim Walter Resources on October 7.

JWR management has planned an operational overview for attendees, as well as a tour of its coal seam well site, a gob well site, the methane processing facility and the VAM/Biothermica unit at the JWR No. 4 operation.
