Transcale hauls into AIMEX

NEW technology developed by CSIRO (Manufacturing & Infrastructure Technology) to take the guesswo...

Staff Reporter

Field work currently being done by Brisbane-based Transcale and the CSIRO with the Trayscan system is expected to complete the “technology transfer” phase of the agreement formed between the two entities. Trayscan is an automated system which measures the volume of material in the tray of haul-trucks using laser scanning technology. The technology is said to deliver the capacity to measure volume in-situ while the truck is moving.

Trayscan consists of a field computer and two scanning lasers which generate 3D profiles of the load. According to Transcale, the lasers are robust, accurate sensors that pose no threat to eye safety and are suitable for operation in rain and dusty environments.

When the Trayscan technology is combined with Transcale’s mine truck weighing system it is possible to estimate the density of each load, a key issue when determining appropriate operating costs of a vehicle.
