i.Power supplies a wide range of electrical equipment, from switchgear to SCADA systems, to a diverse group of industries, including mining and power distributors. Most recently the company had a significant breakthrough into the Australian longwall market winning its first major flameproof contract. The switchgear and automation supplier was awarded a contract in May for a 4500kVA 11kV to 3.3kV Exd flameproof substation for Queensland’s Anglo Coal Southern colliery.

The company relies on several suppliers for key equipment components and the awards were in recognition of the key partnerships i.Power has with its own suppliers.

Speaking at the breakfast, i.Power finance director, Nick Burton, said good relationships were the key to the success of any business.

“We expect from our suppliers what our customers expect from us,” Burton said, including service, support, innovation and competitive pricing.

Burton also said the company had enjoyed a good year with turnover in 2002-03 just over $30 million with turnover for next year projected to climb close to $45 million.

i.Power marketing director, Tim Haight said the award was given based on various criteria, including whether a creative approach was taken by the supplier to the end client and the ability to supply a rapid service response.

Accepting the award, Austdac’s national sales manager Rod Gilmour said the good relationship with i.Power was based on commonality and i.Power’s ability to respond with flexibility to changing requirements.

NSW-based Austdac, supplies a range of electrical equipment to the mining industry, including monitoring and control systems for conveyors and gas monitoring equipment. It has partnered with i.Power in several projects including design and supply of conveyor monitoring packages for the Appin and West Cliff mines in NSW.
