Jointly run by the BBGG and the Geological Society of Australia's Coal Geology Group, the Queensland symposium attracts both national and international delegates and produces a proceedings volume that is recognised as a benchmark document for coal geology.
Frank Van Schagen from the CRC for Coal in Sustainable Development has agreed to make the keynote address.
The BBGG is a non-incorporated, non-financial interest group that meets three times per year at different venues, normally rotated through different mine sites.
At last week’s AGM two new office bearers were nominated: Doug Dunn (BMA) is chair and Merryl Petersen (Runge) is Secretary. Wes Nichols (Anglo Coal) is honorary BBGG/ACARP representative.
The Symposium will be run at Rydges Capricorn International Resort in Yeppoon, October 12-14, 2005. Information on the Symposium can be found at http://cgg.gsa.org.au
