A 46-year-old Rockhampton man was flown to Brisbane in a critical condition with second and third degree burns to the upper half of his body, the Daily Mercury reported.
The contractor was driving towards the highwall where access to the BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance mine begins. The water truck overturned and caught fire after colliding with the mine’s main conveyor.
The accident is being investigated by the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Water mines inspectorate, the Mercury said.
Production is expected to be impacted for at least a few days.
