Preliminary attendance estimates are approximately 200 for this year’s event, themed Coal’s Future – Utility, Industrial and Transportation Fuel Markets, ACC representative Janet Gellici told International Longwall News.
“[The] CMS’06 program examines marketplace and public policy issues of critical important to the coal industry – including suppliers, transporters and consumers in utility, industrial and transportation fuels markets. This year’s theme reflects the agenda’s focus on the vital role of coal in traditional power generation markets, as well as in emerging transportation and industrial fuels markets.”
Part of that agenda includes roundtable discussions and workshops to convene experts and guests on topics such as emissions trading, risk management, the environment and eastern and western marketplace developments. A CEO roundtable is also scheduled for the conference.
Some specific topics and presenters include:
US Coal Supply Market Dynamics – Bill Meister, Marston & Marston;
PRB Coal Beneficiation – Chris Poirier, CoalTek;
Enhanced Scrubber Retrofits: Implications for Coal Sourcing and Production – Jerry Eyster, GE Energy Financial Services;
SO2 and NOx Allowance Markets – Gary Payne, Dominion Energy Marketing; and
Outlook for Coal Transportation – Trygve Gaalaas, Pace Global Energy.
Gellici said much of what is being discussed at this year’s event is a vein that runs through all of its events: coal supply, consumption, transportation and environmental management.
She added the industry’s current events played a key part in the group’s planning of the event’s features and schedule. “The agenda focuses on timely issues, including emerging markets for coal-to-liquids, scientific peer review, greenhouse gas science and public policy considerations and emissions trading issues, among others.”
