US coal production up in January

THE US Department of Energy Information Administration reported higher coal production in January 2001 of 102 million short tons, up 16% on January 2000.

Coal consumed by the electric power sector in November 2000 totalled 80 million short tons, 7% higher than the level in November 1999. Electric power sector coal stocks were 112 million short tons at the end of November 2000, 20% lower than the level a year earlier.

 

Coal exports for November 2000 amounted to 6 million short tons, 19% higher than exports in November 1999. Coal imports in November 2000 totaled 854,000 short tons, 22% lower than imports in November 1999.
