In the first incident, two remote locomotives, 40 empty wagons and a remote control wagon derailed at Harrow Creek on the southern leg of the Gregory branch line around 1.00am on Wednesday morning.

Mines affected by the derailment include the Saraji, Norwich Park, Gregory, German Creek, Foxleigh and Oaky Creek mines.

The second incident occurred at 5.00am, when three wagons derailed on the way into the Jilalan rail depot near Mackay.

While both main lines were available from 4.30pm on Thursday, Queensland Rail said short closures will be necessary to complete repair work on both sites by midday Saturday.

“The erection of new masts for the overhead lines, which were damaged in the derailment, [is] the most critical aspect of this work," QR said.

No one was injured in either incident.
