A GAS outburst has claimed 21 lives at the Yuanyang colliery in China’s Guizhou province.
The outburst struck 31 miners in a shaft on Thursday evening.
Ten miners reportedly escaped either by themselves or with help from rescuers.
Five survivors were treated in hospital for carbon monoxide poisoning, according to Xinhua.
The privately owned mine was reportedly being upgraded at the time of the accident.
