The company’s 45%-owned subsidiary Habtoor Leighton Group, which is headquartered in the Middle East, won the contract in a JV with Dragados Gulf Construction Company.
Habatoor Leighton Group’s share of the contract is worth $85 million.
The project lies around 200km northeast of the city of Burayda in Qassim central region of Saudi Arabia.
Minerals from the bauxite mine will be transported by train using the north-south railway that connects the mine to the aluminium smelter Ma’aden is constructing at Ras Al Khair.
The scope of works includes construction of a pioneer fly camp and temporary facilities main camp, the material handling system, a mine village and connecting roads and utilities.
Work will begin immediately and the project is due to be completed by March 2014.
