Using the Greenpeace vessel Esperanza, the activists failed to disrupt Abbot Point in early August as they landed in a construction area.

But their next attempt at Hay Point forced BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance to halt the terminal, losing two full days of shiploading operations.

Activists managed to chain themselves to a coal loader before eventually surrendering to police.

The protest was climate change-inspired.
