“Last chance talks at JSW have brought no result,” trade union representative Piotr Szereda told Reuters Thursday.
“We will have a 24-hour strike in all coal mines on Friday.”
JSW spokeswoman Katarzyna Jablonska-Bajer told the news service that the union was demanding a 3.8% pay increase as well as a one-time bonus of 2500 zlotys ($US798) and its offer was for a 3% wage increase and a bonus of 1000zl.
“We are disappointed with the decision by the unions,” she said.
“We hoped that in the face of economic slowdown and a difficult situation on the European and Polish markets, they would show more responsibility for the company's fate.”
JSW primarily mines coking coal for the steel market; steelmakers throughout the US and Europe have suffered hard hits with falling prices.
The strike action follows up on a two-hour warning protest in July.
According to Reuters, the group employs about 30,000 people, 23,000 underground.
