According to statistics from the State Administration of Coal Mine Safety Supervision, production rose to 1.16 billion tons after demand from the power generation sector swelled coal output, Dow Jones Energy Service reported.

State-owned mines were the main contributors with 599.6 million tons, up 16% on last year. Local mines contributed 209.2 million tons and the remainder was from township mines.
