Next generation SCSR

THE National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and the US Mine Safety and Health Administration have joined forces to host two workshops in the coming months to gather information for redesigned criteria of a

The events will be held at Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, West Virginia on February 12 and at the Holiday Inn Denver International Airport in Denver, Colorado on March 11. Both will begin at 9am local time and wrap at 2.30pm.

The two agencies said the last group of workshops in 2005 helped with recommendations for the development of both a combination carbon monoxide filter self-rescuer/self-contained self-rescuer (FSR/SCSR) and a dockable self-contained self-rescuer. This set of meetings will hopefully aid in obtaining information to develop redesign criteria for a "next-generation" SCSR.

Each of the one-day events will include the topics of recent mine disasters, the MINER and S-MINERS Acts' impact on SCSR development, and a discussion on possible courses of action. Included in the agenda will be presentations by both agencies as well as opportunity for open discussions with attendees.

Free registration is required for attendance. For more information on the events, contact MSHA or the National Technology Transfer Center at WJU.
