Abra ramps up

The mine's primary pumping system has also been successfully commissioned

The high-grade lead-silver deposit at Abra lies about 230m below the surface, with exploration drilling identifying possible copper-gold mineralisation sitting directly below the currently defined lead-silver mineralisation.

Galena uses a process that easily concentrates ore into a clean, high-grade concentrate that contains very low amounts of deleterious elements.

On site at Abra, Galena has installed a new surface remote facility that allows production bogging to continue over shift changes.

The mine's primary pumping system has also been successfully commissioned.

A second primary fan will be installed in July following completion of the 6m diameter primary exhaust and intake rises down to the 1280m level from the surface.

Galena managing director Tony James said good progress had been made in June with mining taking place on ten different stopes on the 1280m and 1260m levels.

"It's very rewarding to see the high level of technology that is being applied at the Abra mine that will deliver many benefits as we continue to ramp-up production," he said.

"The June shipment (5000t concentrate) left Geraldton last Friday as the mine continues to ramp-up."

James said Abra should have about 3000t of concentrate stockpiled by the end of June which would enable a double shipment or a larger single shipment in July.
