Minexpo 2012 preview: part 1 (A-C)

THE lights, the heat, the action – and that is just on the show floor. Minexpo returns to the Las Vegas Convention Centre in the desert jewel of Sin City once again next week, on September 24-26.

Check out some of the companies which will be on hand at the convention centre in Las Vegas just a few days from now.

ASGCO

ASGCO will showcase its expanding line of primary and secondary belt cleaning systems including the Skalper MDX (mine-duty) line of primary belt cleaners as well as the Wash Box secondary belt cleaning system and the Tru-Trainer line of belt tracking idlers.

ASGCO says its new and improved Load Zone impact beds are designed for whatever you throw at them, while its Slide-N-Seal load zone support impact beds provide effective conveyor belt support utilising bars with most usable depth available, while helping to eliminate spillage in the load zone.

ATB Morley

ATB Morley supplies flameproof motors for all underground mining applications including motors compatible with variable frequency drives. It is the market leader in the supply of longwall motors for Australia.

“All our flameproof motors are designed to be rugged and durable to meet the rigorous demands of the mining environment,” the company says.

“We have recently manufactured the world’s largest shearer motors and the first ever 11,000 volt armoured face conveyor motors.

“We also supply flameproof motors for use with variable speed drives on mining applications – these are matched to the electrical characteristics of the inverter for optimum performance of the system.”

ATB Morley is represented in the US by Longwall Services.

Auto Crane

Ramsey Industries’ brand Auto Crane will demonstrate its “revolutionary” NexStar crane management system and showcase its portfolio of market-leading service cranes, crane bodies and accessories for the mining industry during Minexpo 2012.

Auto Crane says the system brings advanced control technology and unmatched safety features to its truck-mounted cranes used in the mining, construction and energy industries – sectors that have long been plagued with crane-related accidents due to overload events.

“NexStar-equipped hydraulic and electric-hydraulic cranes are the only cranes in their class with load monitoring and load limiting controls, a visual signal and an optional audio alarm,” the company says.

“Features include truck level and boom angle sensors, a status indicator light and an LCD diagnostics display with plain text readouts.”

Brookville Equipment

Brookville builds safety-conscious transportation equipment for underground mining and tunnelling projects.

Equipment types include maintenance vehicles, personnel carriers, scoops, haulage tractors and locomotives that are available in both rail and rubber-tyred applications. The units may be powered by battery or diesel engines.

Brookville’s Jackwalker eliminates the chance of injuries related to manually putting a derailed unit back on its tracks. The unit hydraulically raises 12 inches as a steel platform pushes the unit up. A separate cylinder, mounted horizontally, allows the unit to move 8 inches sideways, moving the unit back onto the tracks.

“Whether running in an underground mine, along a busy city street, or across one of the nation’s rail lines, a Brookville locomotive offers a safe and effective transportation option,” the company says.

BWMS

Becker Wholesale Mine Supply will be on the floor at Minexpo with a diverse group of products including the Becker Varis SmartCom leaky feeder, Conspec mine monitoring, Shurjoint pipe fittings, Becker-NLT WiFi and Fire Service Plus – TrakAde2000 and FireAde2000.

Also on display will be Comtrol mine phones, longwall communication systems and power supplies and Becker Air point-to-point and point-to-multi-point wireless solutions.

“Got a question? Thinking of adding something new but need more details? Minexpo is the perfect time to ask,” the company says.

“Our staff will be available to take questions one-on-one and explain the inner workings and features of any of our products.”

CAB

CAB says its products are manufactured to rigid standards of quality and performance and are used in the most demanding above and underground applications around the world.

CAB hangers are designed to safely support all types of sensor, data, control, communication and electrical cables in above and underground operations.

With the growing importance of safety, CAB has greatly expanded its line of safety products in recent years.

Safety products include cable pullers, vests, belt harnesses, rock dust bags, self-rescuer bags, rescue taglines and specialty bags, just to mention a few.

“CAB products are manufactured with great pride and integrity by persons with severe disabilities,” the company says.

“With the jobs that are created through the CAB product line, employees are given the opportunity to be independent, self-sufficient and competitively employed.”

Caterpillar

At Minexpo, Caterpillar will reveal a number of innovative mining systems and machines.

The new AD60 underground truck with 60-tonne capacity and the new R3000H underground loader with 20-tonne payload capability represent the largest such machines Caterpillar has ever made and promise to boost production and cut costs in high capacity hard rock mines.

For underground coal and soft rock miners, the next generation EL3000 longwall shearer features a state-of-the-art communication system for advanced automation and monitoring.

The Cat longwall system includes personnel proximity detection and underground cameras that can be linked to a surface monitoring centre.

The 6030B is the first of the Cat B series hydraulic shovels and features a state-of-the-art new cab and operator environment with productivity enhancing on-board electronics.

Checkers Industrial Safety

Checkers Industrial Safety Products says it is excited to be an exhibitor at Minexpo.

“We will be unveiling innovative new solutions for the mining industry that include lighter-weight wheel chocks, improved warning whips and high-visibility industrial signals,” the company says.

“These products represent Checkers’ commitment to improving workplace safety for mining operations around the world.”

Checkers says it has reduced the weight of its Monster wheel chocks by more than 20% while maintaining the holding strength and durability required to secure even the largest haul trucks.

An improved line of Gorilla warning whips is claimed to offer improved whip durability, increased light longevity and more secure connections that prevent external elements from affecting the light’s performance.
