UK Coal, a rival in the battle for Drax, said it would report BHP Billiton to anti-monopoly regulators if it wins control of the financially-stricken power plant.

London's Sunday Times newspaper quoted the chief executive of UK Coal, Gordon McPhie, as saying "we would certainly go to the Office of Fair Trading, and I think there would probably be a case in Europe as well".

BHPB's plan is to buy a large portion of the debt attached to the 4000 megawatt power station and win the contract to supply coal for the next 15 years – but only if it is the sole supplier.

UK Coal claims this would make BHPB a dominant supplier in the market. MiningNews.net
