Intellection previously sold its automated mineralogy system, QEMSCAN, to Tata Steel in 2006.
QEMSCAN is used for research and development in the mining and mineralogy sector.
The system is touted to improve productivity, accuracy and the quality of key information resulting from the automated analysis of geological and process samples and help in decision making by mining companies and government bodies.
Intellection chief executive Calvin Tracy said India represented an exciting opportunity.
“The current mining boom, due to increased private and foreign investment, takes in many minerals for which we have existing QEMSCAN applications and proven expertise,” he said.
Formerly known as the Regional Research Laboratory, IMMT is a research and development organisation under the Indian Government’s Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.
IMMT director Professor BK Mishra said he was looking forward to using the system which was going to value-add to several ongoing research and development projects.
“[The] acquisition of the QEMSCAN is also going to give a new impetus to IMMT’s future mineral research programs, including exploration and beneficiation of platinum group elements in India,” Mishra said.
