Hunter Valley-based Falcon, which services the New South Wales underground mining industry, will help DMS step up its presence in NSW.

DMS managing director Terry Young said the business would enhance its product offering and cements the company’s position in the coal industry.

“The business ideally complements our existing underground operations in NSW and Queensland and will provide us deeper penetration into the NSW coal industry,” he said.

Young said DMS intended to work with existing management to continue expanding the business through NSW.

He said this was an ideal time to be expanding the company’s service offering as the sector remained highly fragmented and dominated by small to medium-sized companies that lacked the financial and management resources to seize the opportunities available in the sector.

Falcon Mining owner Mark Pickering said a merger with DMS would provide the companies with the diversity and scale to execute a strategic growth plan.

The earnings accretive acquisition will take DMS’s annual revenue to more than $200 million. It will also enhance the company’s geographic and operational diversity ahead of an initial public offering.
