The quarter to December 2015 was the quickest ever on record for mineral title approvals, with 91% of mining lease and 92% of mining proposal applications approved within 65 business days.

Department figures indicate that, even with fluctuation of application numbers, approval speeds have been steadily improving since changes to the process were implemented in 2010.

According to the minister that has had direct benefits for industry, saving time and money and speeding up job creation.

"The 2015 Eastern Goldfields Gas Pipeline project is a great example of the department’s pro-active approach," Marmion said.

"Efficient processing allowed construction to get under way, employ up to 300 workers and reach its destination more than a month ahead of schedule."

Marmion said the figures highlighted the success of the WA Liberal-Nationals’ campaign against bureaucracy.

"This is about backing the resources industry, and I congratulate DMP for its commitment to cutting red tape and encouraging exploration," he said.
