West Virginia Mining Symposium around the corner

THE state of the West Virginia coal industry, the advancement of equipment technology and permitting and regulatory issues will all be high on the agenda for discussion at the 33rd annual West Virginia Mining Symposium, January 18-20, 2006 in Charleston.

The event, taking place at the Charleston House Holiday Inn, will begin at 11:30am with a welcome luncheon. West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin and a collection of industry representatives will offer the day’s keynote session regarding the state of the industry.

Sessions on heath and safety as well as the environment will begin at 1pm. Other discussions on the advancement of equipment technology, permitting and regulatory topics will also be held, with agencies such as the Mine Safety and Health Administration and the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection.

Thursday’s afternoon discussions will wrap up with a legislative reception headed by government and legislative staff.
