Ex-foreman charged for falsifying reports

AN ex-mine foreman at West Virginia operation Sago has been charged with falsifying inspection reports and posing as a foreman despite not holding an underground miner's card. The indictment is not related to the incident at the mine in January this year that killed 12 miners.

On Tuesday the 116-count federal indictment was brought against Robert L Dennison.

Dow Jones International News reported Dennison was hired in May 2004 by former Sago-owner Anker Coal Group, which fired Dennison three months later after leaning he was not certified to do safety inspections.

If convicted, Dennison could receive up to five years in prison and $US10,000 in fines for each of 113 counts. He could receive up to five years and $250,000 in fines for each of the remaining counts, Dow Jones said.
