TSLs were developed to apply surface reinforcement on to a rock surface to improve stability using a membrane thickness of 3-4mm. Compared with conventional surface reinforcement support measures (including straps and steel mesh), MASTERSEAL 845 is 10-20 times faster.

Pacific regional manager (underground construction) John Gelson said the product also offered advantages over comparable TSLs. It does not require mixing as it is applied in powder form and mixed with water at the nozzle, with no clogging of supply lines.

The MASTERSEAL 845 has been successfully trialled on a longwall take-off where the longwall was 250m wide and 3.4m high.

Gelson said in metal mines the product could be used to replace the extensive use of mesh. Underground coal applications included longwall installations and salvages, ventilation seals, and rib support.

It can also be used in lining dams or sealing switch-houses against water ingress.

MASTERSEAL 845 is Degussa’s latest in-house development.
